KODAK, Tenn.  -- Charcer Burks, Andrew Ely and Daniel Spingola each had three hits, as the Tennessee Smokies beat the Chattanooga Lookouts 6-4 on Saturday.

Chattanooga's loss and Montgomery's win Saturday gives the Lookouts a six game lead, and the magic number to clinch the second-half title remains at 11 games.

Lookouts starter Fernando Romero (11-8) took the loss after a rough outing in which he allowed six runs and eight hits over 4 1/3 innings.

Romero had a rough night, failing to even last his customary 5.0 innings for the first time in eight starts. The 22-year-old gave up six runs for the second-straight start, surrendering eight hits while walking four batters. His ERA as gone from 2.60 to 3.30 over his last two appearances.

Tennessee right-hander Zach Hedges (9-9) picked up a quality start and the win after allowing one run on four hits over seven innings.

The Smokies doubled up the Lookouts on hits with 12 to the Lookouts 6 hits. Burks singled three times. Ely homered and singled twice, scoring a pair of runs while also driving home a couple.

Tennessee started the scoring in the second inning when Ely hit a solo home run.

After Tennessee added two runs, the Lookouts cut into the deficit in the fifth inning when T.J. White hit a solo home run.

The Smokies later tacked on three runs in the fifth when Jason Vosler scored on a ground out and Yasiel Balaguert scored on a wild pitch and Ian Rice scored on a single to secure the victory.

Chattanooga saw its comeback attempt come up short after Andy Wilkins scored on a balk in the ninth inning to cut the Tennessee lead to 6-4.

Chattanooga had a runner on second in the top of the ninth, but Levi Michael flew out to end the game.

21-year old Lewis Thorpe, an Australian and recent call-up from Ft. Meyers, makes his Double-A pitching debut against the Smokies at 5:30 Sunday.
