Burrell Scores Twice In Covenant 5-0 Win Over Berea

Tuesday, October 9, 2018
Kailey Burrell registered her first career two-goal match and also added an assist, while Addy Cronan had a goal and an assist to lead the Covenant women's soccer team to a 5-0 victory over Berea in USA South action at Scotland Yard on Tuesday.

It was the first match played at Scotland Yard in 24 days for Covenant (6-6-1, 3-2 USA South) and the Lady Scots wasted little time in feeling right at home.

Burrell scored both of her goals early in the first half as Covenant took control of the contest.
The freshman collected a short pass from Lizzy Hightower after a Hannah King corner kick and found the back of the net from short range in the sixth minute. Just over two minutes later, Burrell gained possession inside midfield and dribbled past the Berea defense and keeper Jade Fulkerson to score her second goal of the match to make it 2-0 in the eighth minute.

The scores give Burrell six on the year.

Covenant held a 2-0 lead entering halftime after holding a 13-2 edge in shots over the first 45 minutes.

In the second half, Burrell was again part of a goal for the Lady Scots. Burrell's cross into the box found an open Cronan who knocked it in to give Covenant a 3-0 lead in the 58th minute. The goal was Cronan's team-leading eighth of the season.

In the 60th minute it was Cronan's turn to be the giver as her pass through the box found Kyra Duble, who scored when her shot bounced off the post and into the net. Duble's goal, her second of the year, gave Covenant a 4-0 lead. The Lady Scots capped the scoring in the 75th minute when Megan Rasku scored off Paige Simons' pass to make it 5-0. The goal was Rasku's first collegiate goal.

Berea had two shots in the first five minutes of play, but the Covenant defense settled down and the visiting Mountaineers took only five shots the rest of the way. Covenant outshot Berea 23-7 on the day.

Rachel Lemay tallied her second consecutive shutout as she made five saves. Fulkerson made 10 saves for Berea (6-6, 1-4 USA South).

Covenant will host Huntingdon in a key USA South West Division contest on Friday at Scotland Yard. Match time is set for 5:30 p.m.

Covenant's home match against LaGrange on Saturday has been pushed to a 4 p.m. start. Senior Day activities will take place before the match.

A Soddy Daisy ROTC instructor has denied having a gun in a road rage incident with a 17-year-old girl at Northgate Mall, but General Sessions Court Judge Gary Starnes bound the case to the Grand Jury. Drink Up, Chattanooga

I attended the meeting to discuss the placement of the sewage treatment plant at the Cambridge Center in Ooltewah today. My problem with the meeting (aka) dog and pony show, is that the meeting started out with the agenda of the Ooltewah Community Council.  After living in this area for 45+ years I have never heard of this group.  I would like for someone to answer ... Roy Exum: Dear Faux Pelini

It has been my experience that of all the tribes and herds of different people on earth, sports writers are among the funniest people of all. Oh, there isn’t anything real sexy about Villanova beating Georgetown or a baseball player hitting for the cycle. Now, if a player hits a single, double, triple and homer in that order, that’s “a natural cycle,” and that is kind of fun to ... (click for more)
