Getting A Sweet Fix At Gigi's Cupcakes by Janet Wilson posted September 24, 2009
They have a LOT of flavor varieties – some I would never have thought of (Southern Comfort). The only problem for me is that they are very rich and I’m not that much of a “sugar person”. The cake part was really good, and some of the frostings aren’t that sugary, so you’ll have to decide for yourselves which ones are for you. Each day, the flavors rotate, so what you enjoy today, may not be there again until next week, so you’ll simply have to try another one! The cakes were moist with creamy frostings; some with butter cream, some with cream cheese, and some with chocolate ganache. Everyone should be able to find a cupcake just for them! The first one we tried was a Margarita, which Wayne loved. I liked it, but it was a bit sweet for me, as was the Caramel Sugar Mama. I really liked the taste of this one, if the frosting had been a little less sugary. We also have sampled the Lemon Dream Supreme (lemon cake with lemon filling and lemon butter cream frosting with a candied lemon slice) and the Wedding Cake. These were more to my liking. However, my favorite so far has been White Hot Chocolate. It was very good and didn’t overpower me with sugar. There are several (maybe many) more cakes I would like to try – Bailey’s Irish Cream (yellow cake flavored with Irish cream, frosted with Bailey’s flavored cream cheese and crushed almonds), Boston Cream (yellow cake with a creamy vanilla filling, dipped in chocolate ganache), and Tiger Tails (yellow cake with raspberry filling topped with butter cream frosting covered in raspberry infused coconut). Of course, not all cakes are yellow; some are chocolate, white, cherry, red velvet and coffee/Kailua. Cupcakes are $3 each, but if you buy a dozen they are $2.75. Hours for Gigi’s Cupcakes are Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. and on Sunday from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. You can also make special orders for birthdays, showers and other celebrations.
