Fort Hill Cemetery Walking Tours Coming Soon
posted October 9, 2009

Lee University history majors will lead guided walking tours at the Fort Hill Cemetery on Oct. 25 from 2-5 p.m. The event is sponsored by the Lee University Department of History and Political Science and the Bradley County Historical Society with assistance from the Museum Center at 5ive Points.

The tours will introduce the community to several Clevelanders and Bradley Countians from the 19th and early 20th centuries who are buried in the historic section of Fort Hill Cemetery.

Students and volunteer actors and actresses will bring the early residents to life with time period costumes and impersonations. Some of these residents include C.L. and Isabella Tucker Hardwick, E.S. and Anna Plummer Delaney, Samuel Hunt, Caswell Parks and Captain John Traynor.

Parking is available at the Boys and Girls Club located on 3rd Street. Visitors will be shuttled to the historic section to begin the walking tours. Each tour will last about one hour.

Admissions is $5 for adults and $2 for students with school ID. Proceeds support the William Snell Memorial Scholarship fund at Lee University.

For more information contact Randy Wood, associate professor of Humanities, at 614-8131 or rwood@leeuniversity.edu.
