Peyton McCoy harvested an excellent 3-and-a-half year old 8 point buck that tipped the scales at 178 lbs.
Nine youngsters took deer on this weekend's juvenile-only hunt on the Prentice Cooper Wildlife Management Area. Clint Smith, the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency Manager on Prentice Cooper goes all out for the kids every year.

Smith and numerous volunteers provide BBQ, hotdogs and chili for lunch for all the young hunters and their mentors along with T-shirts, special gifts and prizes.

Smith said, "A special thanks go out to Vince Sweeton and his family for making the Prentice Cooper Young Sportsman's Hunt a success again this year."

Smith said nine deer for the number of yopung hunters is about average.

"Considering Saturday's weather I think it went very well," said Smith. "Peyton McCoy harvested an excellent 3-and-a-half year old 8 point buck that tipped the scales at 178 lbs. Rumor has it young mister McCoy is not a stranger to harvesting big bucks."

The next hunt on Prentice Cooper is a gun/archery non-quota, buck-only hunt Nov. 6 - 8.
