White, Walter Jackson Received Purple Heart As Paratrooper During World War II posted November 6, 2009 Walter Jackson White, 82, of Rossville, died on Thursday, November 5, 2009. He was born in Chattanooga to the late Thomas and Marietta White. Walter served his country in WWII, in the U.S. Army Paratroopers, and received a Purple Heart. He retired from Crane Co. after 40 years of service as an inspector. Survivors include his loving wife, Mildred White, children, Glen White, Raymond White, Ralph Compton, Marlene Lee all of Rossville, siblings, Joseph White of Houston, Texas, Ruby Garner of Fort Oglethorpe, ten grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 9, in the chapel with Reverends Billy Fowler and Alfred Johnson officiating. Interment will follow Chattanooga National Cemetery with military honors. His family will receive friends from 2-8 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 7, 2-8 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 8, and prior to the service on Monday. Arrangements are by W.L. Wilson & Sons Funeral Home, Fort Oglethorpe, Ga. |
