Fleischmann Praises GOP Health Reform Option
posted November 6, 2009

Chuck Fleischmann, Republican candidate for Congress in the Third District, praised the House Republican plan for healthcare reform.

He said, “The healthcare plan proposed by House Republicans this week is much more in line with bringing about true healthcare reform while cutting costs to the taxpayer at the same time.

“The Congressional Budget Office estimates that in the first 10 years the House Republican plan will cost $61 billion compared to the $1.05 trillion that Nancy Pelosi’s bill will cost. The House Republican plan will reduce the deficit by $68 billion in the first 10 years and will continue to reduce the federal deficit into the second decade. The House Republican plan will also reduce the cost of premiums and reduce healthcare costs by up to 10% for small businesses – the backbone of the American business system.

"In 219 pages, House Republicans have done much more, with much less, than Speaker Pelosi and her liberal colleagues have proposed in 2,000 pages. Republicans are seeking reform in areas that will truly help the health care system and American citizens. They are going to allow the purchase of health care insurance across state lines in order to create more competition within the market, allow individual Americans to create Health Savings Accounts, and they will bring about tort reform in order to lower medical costs.

"House Republicans have done all of this without a public option and without an individual mandate (i.e. a tax). Democrats in Congress should take a page from the Republican playbook instead of continuing to bankrupt our nation and unravel the most advanced health care system in the world.”
