Lee Wins In Volley For The Cure Match On Friday posted November 6, 2009 Playing in front of a huge crowd in the annual Volley for the Cure match on Friday evening, the Lee Lady Flames posted their 30th victory of the season against just five defeats in handing Alabama-Huntsville a 3-0 defeat. For coach Andrea Hudson it represents the 13th time her Lee teams have won at least 30 games. Between sets, Hudson was presented with a plaque, honoring her 600th victory back on Sept. 26. With over $10,000 expected to be raised for the Mary Ellen Locher Scholarship Fund, Lee quickly won the first set over the visiting Chargers 25-15. The Lady Flames continued to apply the pressure in the second set and waltzed to a 25-17 win and then claimed the last set 25-18. It was senior night in Walker Arena and Milica Krsmanovic, Vedrana Krsmanovic and Gorana Maric were honored before all the activities began. Milica celebrated the occasion by leading the Lady Flames with 11 kills, three assists, four aces and a pair of blocks. Cousin Vedrana played sparingly due to a nagging injury but still contributed a block and a kill. Gorana picked up a kill, an assist and three blocks. Underclassmen also helped the Lady Flames coast to the victory. Jacky Toruno slammed home nine kills and had a .500 hitting percentage. She also help dominate at the net with six blocks and added three digs. Stephanie Todd added 10 kills and 11 digs to go along with two kills. Christa Hutchison continued her fine play with eight kills and a .444 hitting percentage. She had a service ace and five blocks. The assist leaders were, as usual, Gretchen Higdon with 19 and Kelley Leffew with 12. Higdon had six digs and Leffew three. Sara Smith led Lee in digs with 15. For the losers, Kelsey Williams had nine kills and Kelly Wilson picked up 12 digs, while Shelby League was the dig leader with 12. The Lady Flames clinched another Southern States Athletic Conference season title some two weeks ago. Now they will turn their attention to the SSAC tournament which they will host beginning on Friday and Saturday in Walker Arena. |
